Vimukti Divas

August 31, 2024 6:00 pm - August 31, 2024 8:00 pm

The Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 was repealed on August 31, 1952, marking the 'Vimukti Divas', also dubbed the ‘second independence’. Despite the repeal, after all these years of their "freedom," the Nomadic Tribes and De-Notified Tribes (NTDNTs) continue to struggle for their fundamental rights.

On Vimukti Divas, we will screen three short films by Budhan Theatre, followed by a discussion with Dakxin and Atish.

Dakxin is an award-winning filmmaker, playwright, director, and activist from the Chhara De-Notified Tribes of Ahmedabad.

Atish is an award-winning theatre practitioner and filmmaker. He is the community coordinator of Budhan Theatre. Atish has recently been selected for The Junior Fellowship in Theatre by the Culture Department of the Government of India.

Film titles with duration:
We, the DNT people (37:55)
Khel Khel Mein Khel: Chharanagar in the Era of Budhan Theatre (10:57)
