Maternity and Materiality in Art Practice – Presentation by Đinh Thảo Linh
April 27, 2024 6:30 am - April 27, 2024 8:00 pm
The Vietnamese word ‘bà bầu’ refers to a pregnant woman, but also signifies a woman in charge, like a curator, manager, or producer – those who drive things forward. Đinh Thảo Linh explores this idea of maternity in her work, which isn’t the clinical understanding but rather about creating spaces where possibilities can be nurtured and flourish, providing safe environments for things to unfold. Reflecting on her art practice, she will delve into the choice and manipulation of materials, where the materiality can nurture other possibilities, embodying a sense of maternity within it.
Đinh Thảo Linh is part of the ‘16 Breaths Per Minute’ artist residency at Conflictorium, Ahmedabad. Inspired by the allegory of breathing, it provides an opportunity for criticality and reflexivity away from the pressures of the art market and socio-political posturing.
