The Gujaratis: Of Gujarati Women & Other Stories
March 8, 2025 6:00 pm - March 8, 2025 8:00 pm

A conversation between Salil Tripathi and Avni Sethi, discussing Salil Tripathi's book, The Gujaratis, and reflecting on the roles women have occupied in Gujarati Society, from activists and entrepreneurs to scamsters.
Salil is an award-winning journalist and has written three works of non-fiction. ‘The Gujaratis: A Portrait of a Community’ chronicles the story of his people over centuries of social, political, and cultural transformations. Who are the Gujaratis, really? How do they earn, politick, pray, create, make merry, and even kill when they feel threatened? How do they build a sense of self and community and then take it too far, making ‘others’ out of Dalits, Muslims, and denotified tribes?
Avni is an interdisciplinary practitioner with her primary concern lying between culture, memory, space and the body. She founded the Conflictorium in 2013 and is currently nurturing her performance practice.
