WORKSHOP BY MO DIENER, YOGESH MAITREYA | ROMA CULTURE
This workshop was a participatory experience, intended to expand the dialogue on the performativity of poetry, the process and purpose of writing poetry or songs as well as to perform them as an expression of social, emotional and environmental consciousness. In this workshop, Mo Diener and Yogesh Maitreya collected such transformative moments, shared them and created a space for performing and discussing them by using various forms of expression (spoken words, singing, bodywork).
The talk, on one hand, gave an introduction to Mo's work and on the other hand, immerse into the way of thinking and navigating freedom songs as a practice that takes cultural heritage into account without getting stuck there. The energy generated by transformative artistic practices of moving, writing, inventing songs and applying musical patterns or finding new sound lines is a practice that tends to transform everyday chaos. The individual is part of a group or community but still has to trust their own self when writing for creating his or her world. The same for singing or dancing to do so. Freedom Songs express the desire to share common experiences with well-known practices by the artist/creator. While being written or sang they re-create our world again and again. Roma Futurism recognizes these practices of creation and contextualizes them using archives and oral history.
